Greed

It is clear, at least to me, that greed is ruining society.  It is the driving force in the world today.  So many go without as few consume wealth at disgusting levels.  I find it very disturbing but it just seems to be the way the world has become.  I also feel it will be what ends it as well.  Unless morality can one day defeat the monster and restore humanity and compassion before its too late.

  1. That's so sad, and slightly terrifying. Every time I think the world is doomed, though, I see people doing amazing things for one another and my faith in humanity is restored :)

  2. Sad but true. With the bad economic downturn throughout the world, disasters, destructions from floods, fires, earthquakes. Threats of war everywhere, homelessness, hungry and need I name more? Greed is fast becoming the way of life nowadays. Everyone wants more and no one wants to give. Who knows what will end it all?
    Extremely thought provoking post.

    1. I worry a lot, because of my kids, about what I see going on in the world.

  3. We are programmed to want more and we think we can't live without "things". Things like our cell phones, TVs and computers...

    1. Yes, we have been made into consumers by the media, and it seems to be what defines us.

  4. As may be the case in some societies, Shawn, that's why it's important to remember to be actively at work in your own community to prevent this happening as much as possible.

Look out for your neighbours and take time to assist where possible. Offer help whenever you can. Be a friend to all.

It is possible to take control of what goes on in your immediate area and prevent the spread of greed.

  5. I am always dismayed here in Australia what greed will achieve when it comes to politics - the jerkfaces are usually elected and re-elected because of people's greed. They don't care about the bigger picture.

And politicians certainly don't - all they care about is making sure they get re-elected.
